AugNew DreamMakers Program has Launched
Angels for Foster Kids is pleased to announce our DreamMakers program. This program will be our main focus as we head into 2011. This program will fulfill wishes for children who have been abused and or neglected. We tested this program in the summer of 2010 and with great success. We were able to fulfill requests for summer camps, tutoring, clothing and most of all annual passes to Busch Gardens. We granted over 65 wishes so far and hope to continue serving the children in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties. Through strategic partnering AFK is able to limit operation costs and donate 100% of program donations direct to the children. This differentiates our program significantly and we hope will allow us to raise much needed funds to grant all wishes coming into our program. Our goal is to grant 250 wishes during the Holidays in 2010.

FebA Happy Adoption Story in Pinellas County Today.
Please watch this video - what makes this adoption so unique is that it took place right before the child turned 18 years of age and aged out of the foster care system. This child grew up in foster care and I am sure had to begun to think a forever family was never going to happen for him. This is a heart warming story that all should watch and share.

JanBecoming an Angel for Foster Kids
As the a CEO of my own successful technology company that served companies nationally, I had purchased a new commercial building and spent 12 months renovating the space for my company. One day shortly after we moved in while driving to work that morning, out of the blue, a voice spoke to me, “Put everything for sale, liquidate and follow your heart”. My inner voice spoke back, “Why would I want to do that?”
It was that moment that I realized I was not following my passion which was to advocate and serve abused and neglected children. I know the pain many of those kids endure being shuffled from foster home to foster home. I had been a foster child. I was one of the lucky ones however. I launched a successful business and lived a lifestyle most people dream of, yet deep down, I had wanted to start a foundation one day but never had the time as I juggled multiple entrepreneurial projects.
It was at this time in 2007, that Angels for Foster Kids, Inc. was founded. I was 41 years old and I knew it was going to be an emotional process to give up my current lifestyle and begin a new venture from scratch. My new journey would require that I live a much simpler life to make this dream come alive. After speaking with my husband we decided to move forward which included selling our home and finding a much more affordable place to live, a home that would not require my income.
It’s definitely been a challenging journey but today Angels for Foster Kids, Inc. is a 501 3c and I’m proud that we are helping our children who live in the child welfare system. It is my lifelong dream to be part of a team who can fix this broken child welfare system, to raise awareness and reach out to the children to let them know, they are not broken.
